A major earthquake occurred off the southern coast of Mexico, near the Guatemalan border, late Thursday night September 7, 2017. The magnitude 8.1 quake was the largest to hit Mexico in a century. At least 61 people were killed and hundreds injured. Homes, hospitals, and schools were reportedly damaged and 1.85 million homes lost electricity.
